Monica J. Copeland

For over two decades, Monica Copeland, worked in private practice as a trial attorney and legal counsel to clients with varied legal matters. She is the owner of her firm since 2002. Her skills and experience are diverse.

Upon earning her J.D. from the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law, Ms. Copeland began her career working with abused and neglected children, giving her a deep understanding of the difficult nature of family law. Today, those children can come visit Ms. Copeland’s office at any time, a testament to her commitment to seeing her clients obtain a better future. She does not simply want to notch a win for her side.

Ms. Copeland’s skills and experience cover a broad range of legal topics including business matters, civil, criminal, family law, probate and estate planning, guardianship, conservatorship, grandparent rights and real estate. She handled matters in the Circuit Court, District Court, Probate Court, Michigan Court of Appeals, Friend of the Court and Administrative Courts.

To achieve the level of success she has, Ms. Copeland has employed the assistance of a variety of specialists in their fields. She has worked with experts including accountants, business appraisers, real estate appraisers, psychiatrist, psychologists, trauma specialists, teachers, educators, law enforcement, financial analysts, and administrators of various entities in her practice.

In addition to being one of the best in her major practice areas, Ms. Copeland has experience working with alternative resolution methods such as mediation and arbitration to help resolve disputes without going to court.

During her career, she has served as parenting time coordinator, receiver for the court, counselor, guardian ad litem for abused/neglected and vulnerable adults and lawyer/guardian ad litem for abused and neglected children.

A graduate of South Lyon High School, Ms. Copeland has maintained her area roots. She graduated from Alma College before attending the Western Michigan University’s Thomas Cooley School of Law.
